National School Breakfast Week 2020 Recap

This year, National School Breakfast Week has been packed full of exciting kickoffs, giveaways and celebrations! In just five days, we were able to celebrate with six different schools in Indiana.

Monday, March 2nd — Day 1 of National School Breakfast Week

We started the week at Pike Township School, Snacks Crossing Elementary. The school kicked off their breakfast in the classroom program, including new hot food items! The inclusion of hot breakfast items was implemented after Pike Township Schools received the $10,000 Colts/Fuel Up to Play 60 Hometown Grant earlier this school year. After fueling their morning with breakfast, students heard from special guests Blue Colts Mascot, Colts Alumni Player Gary Brackett, and Indiana Dairy Farmer Kerry Estes about why it’s so important to begin every day with a delicious, nutritious breakfast!

Tuesday, March 3rd — Day 2 of National School Breakfast Week

Day 2 of National School Breakfast Week was just as exciting as the first! We were able to help kickoff two new grab and go breakfast carts. Students at Brownsburg West Middle School and Daleville Jr/Sr High School were ecstatic for the addition of the new breakfast equipment. Both schools were also able to increase student breakfast participation with the addition of the carts!

Wednesday, March 4th — Day 3 of National School Breakfast Week

Day 3 of National School Breakfast Week brought two more exciting kickoff celebrations! Our team worked with Winding Ridge Elementary School and Gold Academy to assist in implementing their new breakfast carts. The morning events at both schools were fun-filled and full of excitement. Students at Winding Ridge Elementary even got a special visit from our mascot Buttercup! At Gold Academy, Cafeteria Manager Keri Burr encouraged students to start their day with a smile and a carton of milk, to ensure they were full, focused and ready for the day ahead.

Thursday, March 5th — Day 4th of National School Breakfast Week

Day 4 of National School Breakfast Week was just as fun-filled as the rest! We visited Andrew J. Brown Academy to teach students the importance of eating breakfast every day, and to help kickoff their new breakfast cart program. Students were so excited to start their day with grab and go breakfast, and also received a visit from our awesome mascot, Buttercup. With the addition of the new breakfast cart, more students were able to participate in breakfast to fuel their day!

Overall, National School Breakfast Week was a complete success in schools across Indiana. In total, $45,000 of breakfast equipment was purchased and utilized during the week. All of the schools that received the equipment were also able to increase student breakfast participation and include a few new breakfast options. Not only that, but students were also able to learn more about why it’s so important to start their day with dairy!
