INDIANAPOLIS – Downtowners are invited to take a break from summer’s heat on Friday, July 8 and enjoy a delicious, refreshing ice cream sundae at the 22nd annual Ice Cream Social on the Circle. The event, sponsored by the American Dairy Association of Indiana and its Hoosier dairy farm families, celebrates National Ice Cream Month and Indiana’s ranking as No. 2 in US ice cream production.
The social will be held from 11 am to 2 pm. For this year only, due to construction, the event moves from its usual location on Monument Circle’s northwest quadrant to the southeast quadrant, in front of IPL, Hilbert Circle Theatre and the Circle Tower.
For just $3, guests can indulge their taste buds with gigantic sundaes made from Edy’s Slow Churned Light Ice Cream and drizzled with Smucker’s chocolate, strawberry, caramel, or butterscotch syrups. Each ice cream masterpiece will be crowned with a variety of toppings, including Prairie Farms’ whipped cream. Sundaes will be served from six tents by more than 30 Celebrity Scoopers, including local media personalities, sports notables and business dignitaries.
The event also will feature face painters, mascots, interactive games, displays and music from WZPL and My107.9 FM, the Pacers Fan Van, and Molly and her calves – real live cows! - from Purdue Dairy Sciences.
Proceeds from the 22nd annual Ice Cream Social on the Circle will benefit the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana, which supports, educates and encourages young people with Type 1 diabetes. In recognition of this year’s beneficiary, Smucker’s sugarless chocolate syrup will be available as a topping option.
Well over 2500 sundaes are sold during the Ice Cream Social. Thousands of dollars have been raised for a variety of Central Indiana not-for-profit youth organizations during the event’s history.
