ROSA PARKS-EDISON ELEMENTARY RECEIVES FUNDING FOR WELLNESS PROGRAM
$2800 Awarded by the Indiana Dairy and Nutrition Council for Fuel Up to Play 60
Indianapolis – 12/7/10 – Rosa Parks-Edison Elementary has been chosen to receive $2,800 to support its Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative, the Indiana Dairy and Nutrition Council announced today. Rosa Park-Edison Elementary was selected from among hundreds of schools across the country that applied for funding to help them jumpstart and sustain healthy nutrition and physical activity improvements. This nationwide funding program offers schools up to $3,000 to help them increase awareness of and access to nutrient-rich foods and physical activity opportunities for students. Local Students Honored at Colts Game!
On November 28th, ten fortunate Fuel Up to Play 60 students will be introduced on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium before the Colts home game against the Chargers. The students and their Fuel Up to Play 60 Advisors were the selected to be honored during the game because they were first to qualify by submitting the required program elements. Read more...

Dairy Management Inc. & America's Dairy Farmers Set the Record Straight
(ROSEMONT, IL) November 14, 2010 – The New York Times and numerous media outlets this past week have inaccurately reported on the nation's farmer-funded dairy promotion program.  Much of the reporting is fundamentally wrong.  Contrary to the myth that has been perpetuated, Dairy Management Inc. was not created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), nor is it an agency of USDA.  It is a private, non-profit corporation created  -- and run -- by America's dairy farmers who established it to unify national and local dairy promotion efforts. Beat the Freshman 15
The term “Freshman 15” originally referred to the typical number of credit hours full-time students take each semester, but pop culture now claims that 15 is the number of pounds many college students gain their first year away from home. This assumption has weight, according to a study in the Journal of American College Health, which found that nearly 70 percent of students put on pounds between the start of college and the end of sophomore year. School Lunch Makes the Grade
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, students are flunking healthy eating. Less than 20 percent of school children eat the recommended daily servings of fruit, vegetables and whole grains, and only 30 percent consume three servings of dairy each day. Read more...

Bailly Elementary Wins Fuel Up to Play 60 Statewide Competition by Eating Right, Getting Active and Making Healthy Changes
Chesterton, IN April 26, 2010 – While recently there has been a national focus on eliminating child obesity throughout the country, in Indiana, Bailly Elementary has shown that focusing on small, realistic improvements can be the first step toward that goal.
