Refuel Runner AmbassadorHere at Indiana Dairy we love our bloggers and we have started teaming up with them for some really fun partnerships over the coming months. One of our new programs that we are super excited about is the Indiana Dairy Runner Refuel Ambassador Program. We are sponsoring four Indiana bloggers who happen to also be runners throughout the year to run their favorite races and post about them– all while refueling with Chocolate Milk!

Today we would like to introduce you to one of our Ambassadors, Cherie Lowe of the Queen of Free.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Cherie Queen of FreeHi my name is Cherie Lowe and I have an alter ego. I think everyone should.  I’ve long been addicted to getting something for nothing. In August of 2008, I adopted the alter ego, the Queen of Free – to share freebies, strategies for everyday saving, & inspiration for those pursuing a debt free life. From 2008-2012, I shared our family’s personal “debt slaying journey.” The Royal Family paid off a whopping $127,482.30 {go ahead & rub your eyes, but you read it correctly} & are now officially debt free. In fact, Sallie Mae owes us $0.32 & we’re still a little bitter. I believe that something can come from nothing & that there’s always a way to simplify your life & budget. Each week, I appear as a savings expert on WTHR {Indianapolis NBC Affiliate} & our story has been featured in the national publications The Wall Street Journal & All You Magazine. We’ve also been blessed to appear on noted websites like Yahoo Finance, Yahoo ShineBabble, Family Circle, DaveRamsey.com & more. I regularly blog at DoingIndy with ways to save when you visit the Circle City. My husband Brian – the King of Free – and I have a passion for sharing how finances & marriage can intersect in harmony & beauty. Through speaking & written word, more than anything, I long for others to realize there is HOPE for their finances.

How long have you been running?

I didn’t begin running until after I had kids. And I’ve been running on and off for the last 7 years. I think I didn’t realize I “could” run {my mantra prior to becoming a runner was “Run when chased.”} even though I had spent many years biking and in aerobics classes. It’s never too late to begin!

Cherie Mini Marathon 2011Why do you run?

I run for lots of reasons. But probably my favorite is to escape from the day to day stress, worries, and responsibilities I carry. I love put on my headphones and “disappear” for at least a few minutes. Pouring myself into 40 minutes of time to think, be inspired, and literally make my heart pound breathes life into my soul. Even better, I love the high that it provides after it’s over.

Why did you want to become a Refuel Runner Ambassador?

I wanted to become a Refuel Runner Ambassador to encourage others that they can run. Being a cheerleader for others who have chosen to do hard things is a passion of mine {and I’d like to think my life’s calling}. It’s easiest to cheer others on when you share your own personal story. Honestly, it’s not too different from sharing our story of paying off debt. There are so, so, so many parallels between running and paying off debt. So whether you’ve never run down the block or you’re shooting for a new goal of distance or speed, I want to be the one chanting for you from the virtual sidelines. Yes, running can be hard {and so is paying off debt} but I know it’s worth it.

What race are you looking forward to most this year?

I love any race that I run because it’s such a great time to be around others who have a shared passion. But I’m most looking forward to the Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon on August 31st. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done a half marathon and I want to be more disciplined in training to run one. In the past I’ve not really trained for a specific time, only to finish, but I have a goal in mind this time around. I know that the proximity of this event will keep me on my toes throughout summer months {quite literally} and I’ve never run it before so there’s something exciting about a new-to-me event.

Um writing all of this makes me feel like I need to go for a run right now.  :)
