MTJ Jersey Farm

Fifth in our June Dairy Month 30 Dairies in 30 days series is MTJ Jersey Farm in Eaton, Indiana. Make sure you check out the refrigerator fudge recipe at the end!

MTJ Jersey Farm began when Tom and Mary Jeffrey purchased this farm in 1959. Cindy Jeffrey, the current owner, was just 9 months old when her parents bought the farm.

After a start-up year, the Jeffreys began milking cows in 1960. The farm is home to registered Jerseys, a breed of dairy cow from the British isle of Jersey that is known for high butterfat and rich, creamy milk.

Cindy took over ownership of her family’s farm and the role of farm manager in 1998. This is a family dairy, all family members help out as needed.

At 85, Cindy’s mom, Mary, still keeps the records and her dad, Tom, helps with the heifers. Cindy has been a 4-H leader for 27 yrs. She always has a calf for some 4-H member to show, and at least 10 kids will be showing MTJ Jersey Farm animals this year.
