For the eleventh dairy farm in our June Dairy Month line-up, we travel down to southwest Indiana to Rauscher Farms in Huntingburg.
Rauscher Farms is a fourth-generation dairy farm, one of only four left in its county. Two brothers operate the farm, milking 200 dairy cows.
They also grow alfalfa hay and wheat. Rauscher Farms use genetic data to improve the healthy and productivity of their herd, always seeking to breed a better dairy cow.
The brothers use genetic information to pair cows with bulls so the calves will be even better than their parents. They also raise their male calves and sell them for breeding bulls, attracting buyers throughout Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois.
