- 2 Slices Cinnamon Swirl Bread

- 1 Slice Havarti Cheese
- 1.5 T Cinnamon Cream Cheese Spread
- 1.5 T Caramel Apple Pie Filling

Growing up I looked forward to attending the State Fair with my family and eating my grilled cheese year after year. When I married a Frenchman, I was so excited to introduce him to the State Fair experience I knew and treasured - especially of our Hoosier and American food favorites. He quickly found his favorite treat to be the caramel apple because it reminded him of the Tarte Tatin he knew and loved as a boy. Now, we attend the State Fair annually with our son and our daughter, and we were all excited when we heard about this contest. We knew our entry would need a Franco-American flair, and so we developed a grilled cheese that combines our two favorites - the dairy barn grilled cheese and the Tarte-Tatin like caramel apple. We are excited to share our French-American creation with our fellow Hoosiers because tasty diplomacy is the best kind of diplomacy. Bon appétit, and vive le State Fair!
Spread 1 T butter per slice on each of cinnamon swirl bread. Heat your griddle to 325°, and melt 2 T butter on the griddle. Place both slices of bread butter-side-down in the melted butter on the griddle. On 1 slice of bread add 1 slice of American cheese, and on the other slice, add 1 slice of Havarti and the other 1 slice of American cheese. As the cheese start to melt, spread the 1.5 T cinnamon cream cheese spread on top delicately. On the other slice of bread, spread the 1.5 T caramel apple pie filling on top of the cheese. Once both slices of bread are grilled to golden brown, remove from head, and combine the two sides together. Let rest for 1 minute, and slice on the diagonal. Drizzle with caramel sauce to taste, and serve with an ice-cold glass of milk. Bon Appétit!
