The cheese lady
Annual Cheese sculpture
ADAI is proud to partner with renowned artist Sarah Kaufman, known as “The Cheese Lady,” to create a cheese sculpture masterpiece using locally sourced Indiana cheese, donated by Pace Dairy (Crawfordsville). She’s been a regular at the fair since 2006, crafting large sculptures from cheddar cheese, often with ties to the fair’s overall theme, but always including nods to dairy and magical milk moments.
Since 2023, Sarah has worked alongside Maryland art teacher and food sculptor, Nancy Baker, to transform almost 2,000 pounds of cheese into memorable designs. Sarah and Nancy are happy to interact with guests, answer questions about sculpting and why they love dairy!
