My Amazing Mac ‘n Cheese

 16 oz elbow macaroni
 2 cups whole milk
 ¾ cup whipping cream
 10 oz natural cheese-any combination (colby-jack, Muenster, Gruyere), shredded (2 1/2 cups)
 4 oz Velveeta cheese food loaf, cubed (1 cup)
 ½ cup (1 stick) butter, cut in pieces
 1 egg, beaten
 Salt and pepper to taste
 Panko bread crumbs, optional
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large pan, cook macaroni according to package directions in boiling salted water until al dente; drain.

In a large bowl, combine macaroni, milk, cream, natural cheeses, Velveeta, butter, egg, salt and pepper; mix well.

Turn into a 13 x 9-inch baking pan or dish; cover with aluminum foil.

Bake 45 to 60 minutes or until bubbly.

For a crunchy topping, after 30 minutes baking, uncover and top with bread crumbs.

Bake uncovered 15 minutes longer.
