Parmesan Chicken Fettuccine

 1 lb fettuccine
 1 cup unsalted butter, divided
 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
 ½ tsp salt
 ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper, divided
 4 cups small broccoli florets
 4 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced
 ¼ cup chopped onion
 2 cloves garlic, minced
 2 cups whipping cream
 2 cups grated Parmesan cheese, divided
 5 slices bacon, cooked, crumbled, and divided

Cook fettuccine according to package directions.

Drain pasta; cover and keep warm.

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter.

Season the chicken with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper.

Cook chicken until cooked through, about 5 to 6 minutes.

Transfer chicken to a plate; set aside.

Add 4 more tablespoons of butter to the skillet.

Cook the broccoli, mushrooms, onion, and garlic just until the vegetables are softened, about 4 to 5 minutes.

Transfer vegetables to the plate with chicken; set aside.

In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the cream and remaining 1/2 cup of butter.

Stirring frequently, cook until butter is melted, about 2 minutes.

Add 1 3/4 cups of Parmesan cheese and remaining 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper; stir until cheese is melted.

Combine pasta, chicken, broccoli mixture and bacon pieces in the large skillet.

Stir cheese sauce into pasta mixture.

Serve warm with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.
